AMERICAN COWGIRL #22

colorado

I grew up in Loveland, Colorado, the daughter of a cutting horse trainer. I was born with a love for the western way of life. My early days were spent working hard and learning the world of cutting horses, reining horses, and all-around performance horses. Those days in the trenches helped me recognize and develop my passion for a life working with and caring for horses and cattle. After graduating from high school, I followed my dreams and passions to Texas where I worked under industry leading reining horse trainers and horsemen for several years. Then I returned to my home state of Colorado to establish Generations Performance Horses, specializing in training and showing reining and all- around horses. During my time raising a newborn daughter, I had my second passion develop and take hold. I obtained a veterinary technician degree and began a side career as a Critical Care Nurse in the equine department at Colorado State University Teaching Hospital . It was here that I met my husband Sam Hendrix, DVM. Following the completion of Sam’s surgical residency, we accepted a position in Park City, Utah, where we helped establish a regional equine referral veterinary hospital. While establishing the practice, my roots and passion for the cow-horse took hold again, and I began training cutting horses again full time. Following four years in Utah, we returned to Colorado where I currently divide my time between training and showing cutting horses and working as an equine veterinary technician at the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I currently operate Generations Performance Horses with my husband Sam, daughter Kaylie, and son Paxton, all of whom also carry the passion and are rooted in the western way of life. Sharing my love for the western culture and those that work daily to preserve it is truly what drives me and is where I find my center.

Generations Performance Horses is the culmination of over 20 years of showing and training experience in the cutting and reining arena. Jessica Bernhardt Hendrix owns and operates Generations Performance Horses located in Wellington, Colorado. She has over 20 years of experience showing and training cutting and reining horses. A passion for starting 2 year old show prospects and working them into their limited aged event years is the basis of her program. She also has a passion for teaching and giving lessons to those interested in learning more about the sport in a low-stress environment. Jessica's entire family is involved in the program with her husband Sam Hendrix as an equine veterinary surgeon, managing the health program of horses in our care, and both children, Kaylie and Paxton, involved in daily operations. It truly is a multi-generational program as Jess’ father is a full-time cutting horse trainer as well. The passion spans generations. You can also visit them on Facebook at Generations Performance Horses.

Realities For Children provides for the unmet and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected or are at-risk. We do this through our healing philosophy that provides emergency funding for children in Larimer County when all other resources are exhausted. We support the process of recovery through youth activities, critical item distributions, and resources to our 39 Partner Youth Agencies and, we work to break the cycle of abuse through special direct grant programs and scholarships for the youth we serve. Because no child should be forgotten.
